Inner Me Session - Pranayama

In the light of current events, much of our energy and attention is moving outward. Prana – also known as the universal energy that runs through us – can become disturbed, causing imbalances in our digestion, mind and spirit. It’s a good time to remember our wellness allies to help keep us balanced and grounded.

Pranayama allows you to experience the mindfulness in a new way. This practice of restraining and expanding the breath comes in many forms, each of which has its own benefits for supporting various physical and emotional imbalances.

Nadi shodana, or alternate nostril breathing, literally translated from Sanskrit as “clearing and purifying the subtle channels”, is one of the best forms of pranayama for balancing stress and the nervous system. To practice it in its most simple form: - Take a comfortable seat. Make sure you are warm - Exhale through both nostrils - Block the left nostril with your ring finger and inhale through your right nostril - Block the right nostril with your thumb, and exhale through your left nostril - Inhale through the left nostril, then block the left nostril with your ring finger and inhale through your right nostril - Repeat for about 5-10 minutes

If you are congested, you can take a comfortable seat with your eyes closed, focusing your attention on your normal breath. - Viviane Cruz - LD Spa Manager
