People of Korčula - Luka Krajančić

Luka Krajančić is a poet, artist, and winemaker who grew up on the southern side of Korčula island in the small seaside village of Zavalatica.

His wines tell the story of his intimate experience working with the land.

The KRAJANČIĆ winery began its journey in 1993 when Luka decided to revive over 500 years of tradition. Today, the family's vineyards cover 3,5 hectares of land and in them only one variety grows – Pošip. With so much love and hard work dedicated to it, it comes as no surprise that his Pošip has become one the favourites amongst Croats.

Taking traditional winemaking to a higher level, Krajančić uses a combination of low yield per vine and modern vinification techniques to create polished wines with international style. Making mostly Pošip-based wines, Krajančić’s most popular products are the Pošip Intrada, the basic Pošip ‘Ježina’, and the ‘Sur Lie’.

Luka is also a passionate poet, in love with the sea and his island, so he believes in the freedom of artistic expression, both when it comes to words and wine. As he said, it takes a bit of creativity and insanity to do what he does. Even those who are far from being wine buffs will recognise the warmth and aromas of the south Adriatic island in Krajančić wines, but reinterpreted in his way.
