The museum is in the Renaissance Gabrielis Palace on St. Mark's Square, facing the cathedral. Local builders built this large palace at the beginning of the 16th century for that wealthy family. It has three stories and attic. The ground storyused to hold shops and storerooms, and the upper floors were residental. The interior of the palace was reconstructed several times and used for various purposes, and since 1957 it has housed the town museum.
The museum collections show the historical, cultural and social life of the city of Korčula during the centuries.
