KORKYRA BAROQUE FESTIVAL 2024

The 13th Korkyra Baroque Festival, a celebration of exquisite baroque music, graced the stunning locations of Korčula and its surrounding areas from September 1st to 16th. Performances unfolded in picturesque settings such as Vela Luka, Račišće, Pupnat, Lumbarda, Badija, Viganj, and Orebić, captivating audiences with their beauty and historical significance.

The festival commenced with a warm greeting from Minister of Culture Nina Obuljen Koržinek and a vibrant performance of Barokna Moreška at the Summer Cinema in Korčula, setting the stage for a fortnight of musical enchantment. Attendees were treated to a diverse program of concerts featuring both local and international artists and baroque music enthusiasts. Highlights included performances like "Aspettate! Adesso canto!", "The Fairy Queen", "Now the sun rises", "Misterios del amor", "Ars improvisatoria", "A pochi o a molti strumenti", "Mare nostrum", "Battaglia", "A contest of equals", and "Hommage a Johann Sebastian".

The festival showcased the talent of world-renowned artists. Notable performers included acclaimed violinist Adrian Butterfield (UK), lutenist Jan Čižmar (Czechia), the vocal talents of Spanish artist Julia Caballera Pereza, harpsichordist Aapa Hakkinen (Finland), Bojan Čičić on violin, and organist Silas Wollston. The festival's captivating and rich program once again left audiences speechless. The 13th Korkyra Baroque Festival, a testament to the enduring appeal of baroque music, promises many more years of artistic excellence.
