People of Korčula - Nina Šestanović
Korčula is not only beautiful because of its nature, culture and gastronomy. The beauty of the island is reflected in the people who live here. ✨
Every Wednesday we will share interesting stories of people of Korčula island, whether they are famous artists who are no longer with us or living artists, entrepreneurs, athletes or just ordinary people with inspiring stories to share.
Today we introduce you Nina Šestanović, an artist from Lumbarda. 💛
"Having grown up on the small island of Korčula – which I depict - my motifs are typical and specific, and they occur in a spontaneous and instinctive manner. I feel that, in life as in art, what is shown is not so relevant, but the way in which the reality around us is interpreted." - says Nina.
After graduating from Academy of fine arts in Zagreb, Croatia, Nina started working in theater, working on scenography and holding workshops. After moving to New Zealand 2012. she continued working on her serie of Women in folklore costumes now adding details from Maori folklore and traditional costumes. After returning back to Croatia she went back to where she started from, Korcula landscapes. "When you’re born in place like this, it is something you need to put in what ever you do. This place (island) we live on is not just beautiful it’s something that runs through your vanes, something deep in your soul. As we islanders like to say ‘tuđi Čovik nikad neće znati.." ✍️
